I love your fake chalkboard effect on photoshop. Could you do a similar mockup with different text and maybe some color variation? How many hours of work would that take approximately? What is your hourly rate?
Just stumbled upon your site via Pinterest (as you do). Apart from your chalk board tutorial – lovely to give something back BTW – I just wanted to say, great job, great work, great site! Love the upcycled palette table for your mum.
Absolutely fine with me, although keep in mind these are not huge files (pixel dimension-wise) and upsizing them may not produce a good result if you’re thinking of creating a single background file. They’re also not designed to tile gracefully. But after all those caveats, if you can use them, have at it.
after much much much searching online, I simply cannot find the answer to this question – how does the chalkboard design look printed (ie on a postcard or business card) ????? Sooooooo I thought I would ask someone who might know…thoughts?
While I haven’t tried it myself, as a print designer, I wouldn’t start out using these particular files. I created them (and the tutorial) for screen applications, not print. In other words so folks could present their hand lettering projects on a fake chalkboard for posting online. So I would either use a high-res stock photo of a chalkboard as a background for the design (or make one myself) then be sure and scan my artwork at at least 300 dpi. You might be able to get away with using my lo-res chalkboard backgrounds at 3.5 x2 (business card dimensions), but don’t quote me on it. Hope that helps.
Absolutely. This is my little gift to the world and I have soft spot for teachers so use them in whichever way you’d like.If you can work in a credit, all the better.
Just credit http://www.foolishfire.com, that would be fine. I’m also in the process of setting up a Subscribe option so that would also be a way to “compensate” if that appeals. Just an email notification of new work, freebies and tutorials.

I loved the “Hi-res Chalkboard” poster…could I hire you to make the class rules poster for my classroom to look just like that?
Amy

Hi there,
I love the font that you created for the “foolish fire” header on the website. Have you made it download-able anywhere? I would love to use it for a school project and cant find another one like it, yours is so much cooler.
Thanks
Jayme

Thanks for the kind words. It’s actually not a font…yet anyway. I lettered the header by hand. I’m sure you can find something similar out there, though, since hand lettered fonts are all the rage right now.

Hello,
I’d like to inquire if it’s possible to purchase advertising space on foolishfire.com.
If there is any space available please let me know and we could discuss further details.
Are you interested in licensing the Monk graphic for use on a line of T-shirts?
Do you have any similar music-related graphic / quote works? Maybe Miles, he was a treasure trove of pith.
James Ketsdever
Thanks for inquiring, Abigail. I have no plans at the moment to display advertising but I’m not discounting it in the future. What’s the nature of your business?

Thanks for the kind words, Gavin. Just discovered a trove of discarded palettes so more upcycled furniture is in the works.
Hello..
do you also do web design?
Absolutely. http://www.sarawaters.com
Hi James,
What kind of scanner do you recommend? I’m hoping to start using photoshop more but need a good quality scanner first.
Also, love your stuff! So great.
Rachel
Do you ever sell any of your work? I LOVE the one that says “be silly be honest be kind”.
Hi James
Just wondering whether I would be able to use your free chalkboard background in my blog design?
Kind regards
Zoe.
